There are so many options out there today, for downloading music. There are many free sites out there, however I do not advocate using them. Call me old fashioned but, I feel the artist should get some amount of money for his ART. So when you pay for music there is Walmart, iTunes and others. Of which I use iTunes about 10% of the time for my downloads. But the best place in the world to find great music is eMusic.
eMusic is a subscription service that you can pay for each month. Their prices are all over the place, from $5.99 to like $39.99, just depends how many downloads you want each month. This is where I get the rest of my downloads. I subscribe to the 100 downloads a month for $19.99.
However there is always a down side...eMusic DOES NOT CARRY a lot of what you would find on the radio. They specialize on music that you might find in PASTE MAGAZINE, or the Starbucks Radio Network on XM. eMusic is on the cutting edge and so are their artists. Matter of fact here are some of my downloads from this month:
State Radio-Live
Umphree's McGhee-an eMusic exclusive Live
Barenaked Ladies-Live in London
New Pornographers-Challengers
Walter Trout-His new one, (can't remember the name of it)
If you are interested let me know, and I will send you a link that you can get some bonus downloads from, (and so will I).
Till another time.

EMusic has the same business model as Netflix and Blockbuster. I agree that it is the place to go for dowloads, if you want to pay. As for the rock stars who should get paid, I hesitate just a bit. Remember back in the day when you could go to a main stream concert like Pearl Jam or Dave Matthews for $15-$20? Now, you're lucky to get a ticket for less than $75. If they are hurting for money, get out and play. I like the fact that some bands, like Cold Play (even though they suck), offered their new disk for free download.
